September 2021 saw a return fo full rugby following the complete write off of the previous season due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Renegades participated in two leagues: the Eastern Counties Division 1 West and then in the Eastern Counties 1 Shield. The second league was between the two teams who topped each of the Eastern Counties Division 1 Leagure (North, West and South).
There was intense competition between the three top teams in the Eastern Counties Division 1 West. A greatly improved Cambridge 3 side dominated, but there was stiff competition between Renegades and Shelford 3 for second place. Renegades managed to shave it on points difference on the last game of the season. The table below shows how close it was for second place!
The second part of the season was, as always, more challenging. Renegades went in two games down as the two losses to Cambridge 3 were carried over, making it an uphill struggle from the start. We were also faced with a couple of occasions when oppoenents were able to draw heavily on players from university or for from a higher first team to give Renegades a complete smacking. However, dogged determination, and dedication to honouring fixtures saw Renegades scrape into the third of the three promotion places behind Cambridge and North Walsham. In fact, promotion was extended to include Sudbury 2 and Ipswich 2 as well. The table below shows how things stood at the end of the season.
