Welcome to Renegades Rugby website. We are a rugby-for-pleasure club based in Cottenham, just north of Cambridge. We pride ourselves on our commitment on the pitch and our hospitality off it.
We are always looking for bright new talent. However, we are delighted to get stale old talent too. If you are interested please call 07966 404 813.
Renegades Rascals/Youth Rugby Club hosted a Development Tournament for under 7′s to under 12′s on Sunday 6th April, at Cottenham Recreation Ground. The tournament was planned to allow clubs in the County to introduce young players to tournament rugby, introduce clubs to our club and round off the playing season for Renegades Rascals/Youth Rugby.
This was a round robin event between Ely A and B, St Ives, Wendons Ambo and Renegades. There were some close fought matches and the result of the tournament came down to the wire, and the result was decided on tries conceded. Ely A were the winners.
This was a four team round robin event with Ely providing three teams with one team from Renegades. Surprisingly Ely won this event.
This saw a five way round robin tournament between Cambridge, Shelford, Peterborough, Huntingdon and Renegades. The first few fixtures saw a three team race to winning the trophy. Renegades started off with excellent results by firstly beating Cambridge 4 tries to 2, then Peterborough 5 tries to 3. Huntingdon had a great start by beating Shelford 4 tries to 2, then beating Cambridge. Shelford , after their defeat to Huntingdon went and beat Cambridge and Peterborough. This left probably the most competitive tie of the tournament when Renegades met up with Shelford in round 5 to decide 2nd place in the group, after both sides had narrowly lost to Huntingdon. Shelford gained the upper edge with a 5 tries to 3 score-line, with some brilliant attacking play on both sides, with the highlight of the tie seeing Davey H sell a dummy on the half way and then sprint for the try line. Huntingdon went on to win the Under 9′s tournament after remaining undefeated and with a final victory over Peterborough of 8 tries to nil.
This was nearly only a three team round robin event, until Kettering responded to a last minute call to enter, which evened things up as a four team along with Huntingdon, Newmarket and Renegades.
Renegades started off really well against Huntingdon beating them 3 tries to 1.
Olly P started the scoring with a great try through the middle, then Huntingdon scored a try back , before Olly P scored again powering though the Huntingdon defence!
Then just before half time Jobey W scored a try after some terrific passing between the half backs.
Unfortunately, Renegades suffered some injuries in the second game against Newmarket and lost 5 tries to nil, and in the final game against Kettering they lost 5 tries to 1, with a consolation try from Jobey W at scrum half.
Newmarket, went on to win the tournament remaining un-beaten through-out.
With the Easter School Holidays taking its toll on player numbers, this became a straight development tie between Cambridge and Ely/Renegades combined team. Ely/Renegades were eventual winners, Renegades lifted and kept the trophy, we can only assume that Ely will have the trophy for the other six months of the year!
Thank you to all who made the day a great success.
With the help of Renegade parents, coaches and helpers, plus the support of the tournament sponsors RAM Rugby, Raging Bull, 3 Tuns at Fen Drayton and Hockeys, all in all the tournament was a tremendous success, and Renegades Rascals/Youth intend to make this an annual event. The feedback from players, coaches and parents was all good, and has hopefully established Renegades Youth and Mini rugby within the County, as a definite fixture for next season.”
